Tēna koutou katoa, Talofa lava and warm Pacific greetings.
Loneliness NZ is pleased to introduce the Global Initiative on Loneliness and Connection (GILC), and to invite you to a webinar event this Tuesday night “What is the global response to loneliness after Covid-19?
The creation of this organisation is an initiative of nine organisations, including Loneliness NZ, working in partnership.
Alongside, New Zealand other countries represented are Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, United Kingdom and United States. We are all nationally, and now globally, committed to end the pressing issues of loneliness and social isolation.
GILC members are passionate about supporting current and future generations to have a positive and meaningful social identity and sense of connection to their families, friends, and communities, thereby reducing the prevalence, incidence, and negative impacts of loneliness and social isolation.
See the Global Initiative on Loneliness and Connection website for more information, on the Charter, and the Steering Committee.
We are fortunate to have on the Steering Committee Professor Julianne Holt-Lunstad, a leading authority on health issues related to social disconnection. We are currently working towards a position statement.
You are invited to a webinar event “What is the global response to loneliness after Covid-19?” which has been created (with very kind thanks to the UK!) as a soft launch for GILC on Tuesday night
July 20 11.30pm NZT
[July 20 12:30pm BST].
If you would like to register, click here to book your place.
Feel free to pass this on to anyone else you know has an interest in loneliness issues.
A recording of the event will become available to those registered, as GILC acknowledges the timing is not great, particularly for New Zealand.
These are some of the global leaders speaking:
We will also hear global and national perspectives from:
We wish you very meaningful connections with others – your family, friends and whānau – especially giving thought to those of you whose families are still being affected by border closures and lockdowns.
To everyone reading this… thank you for being part of Loneliness NZ’s journey!
We would also love to hear from you, and you are welcome to contact us through our Contact Us page.
